Government: No intention of demonetizing Rs.2000 notes

The government Said that there is nothing like demonetizing Rs.2000 notes and asked the citizens not to go by the rumors. In response to a question asked by a Congress member about the demonetization of Rs. 2000 notes, during the Question Hour, minister of the Home Kiren Rijiji said in Rajya Sabha that they are only seizing fake currency and said that those are just rumors in the market.
The minister added that it is not correct that fake currency can’t be identified, as the fake notes that were introduced into the market are made of low quality and can be easily identified but later, those notes started coming in a better quality but still they could be identified. He also said that they have seized most of the fake currency from Gujarat and West Bengal.
The minister also said that they have taken extra measures to curb the fake currency and also to avoid any such activities happening in the future as they have added new design and extra features in the new currency notes and the setting up of a committee to monitor such activities with the help of special teams and intelligent agencies and also by providing training and awareness among the people, such currency can be curbed.
According to the information National Investigation Agency (NIA) 2000 notes worth 4.53 crores from Gujarat and West Bengal.
