The centre informed SC that as the telecom has regulations and in the similar way there will soon come some regulationsfor OTTs like WhatsApp, Facebook Google Talk, etc…
The version of the telecom department is that these OTTs use their network to reach and give service to the people but still they don’t have any regulatory parameters.
It is said that there is no security to the private conversations in chat or voice in these OTTs as the privacy is an issue with them and it is not maintainable as these are governed according to the Information Technology Act, 2000.
The OTT service providers’ argument is that all the messages and voice calls are encrypted. Anyhow, it is decided that the hearing will be on 18th April.
